The seawall construction project of Hazira Port Private Limited (“HPPL”) has been awarded the Bronze Safety Award for the year 2008 by the National Safety Council, a national level organization under Ministry of Labour, Government of India. The award was given to both HPPL, as the owner of the Project and ITD Cementation India Limited, as the contractor on 29th December at a function held in Mumbai. The award was received by Mr Nitin Shukla, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Hazira Group of Companies and Mr D S Sivakumar, Project Manager, Hazira Port.
The objective of this award is to recognize HSE performance. The performance is measured by accident free man-hours, accident free period duration, accident frequency rate and implementation of effective HSE MS for achievement of higher standards.
HPPL and ITD Cementation worked as a team to execute the project safely. The project recorded about 0.6 million man-hours. The top leadership commitment was the key enabler. The contractor adopted HSE practices from HPPL like near miss reporting/analysis/ close-out, inter site management walks, worker recognition, Permit to Work (PTW) system etc. In spite of smaller project duration and low recorded man hours, as compared to a typical construction project, the project has been recognized for its proactive approach to safety.
